SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Original Royal Air Force (RAF) eagle shoulder badge in light blue embroidery on dark blue backing.
FULL DESCRIPTION:
This item is an authentic Royal Air Force (RAF) shoulder badge, commonly called an eagle or, informally among collectors, an albatross. It features the classic embroidered eagle in light blue or silver-grey thread on a dark blue felt or wool background.
British in origin, this badge was worn by RAF personnel below the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1. The eagle design was first introduced in 1918, with this light-blue-on-dark-blue version used on the standard RAF blue-grey uniform (home service dress) from 1919 onwards. It remains a popular and recognisable insignia among RAF collectors.
