Ramaphosa - The man who would be king - Book

This book is in good condition. Some rows spots on the outer edge of the pages.
222 pages

After a decade of looting and corruption, South Africa is staring into the
abyss. The unthinkable has happened: Nelson Mandela's Rainbow Nation
is in danger of becoming a failed state. All eyes are turning to who will
take over as president when Jacob Zuma's scandal-ridden reign comes
to an end.
First in line is his deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa. The founder of the
powerful National Union of Mineworkers, the architect of South Africa's
much-lauded post-apartheid Constitution and the first major player in
black economic empowerment, Ramaphosa ticks all the right boxes.
But, when striking mineworkers were gunned down by police at
Marikana in 2012, in possibly the worst tragedy of the democratic era,
Ramaphosa was no longer at their side. He was a wealthy businessman
sitting on the board of the mining house they were protesting against.
And when South Africans - including several prominent members
of the ruling ANC - openly rebelled against Zuma's corruption and his
failure to adhere to his constitutional obligations, Ramaphosa remained
strangely silent, staying at Zuma's side.
When he finally began to speak out against the capture of the state
by Zuma's cronies, some said he had left it too late. His growing band of
supporters within the ruling party said he was executing a canny
strategy to seize power as an insider.
Author and seasoned journalist Ray Hartley has tracked Ramaphosa's
rise closely for more than two decades. He examines Ramaphosa's dramatic
political life in an effort to answer the questions: who is Ramaphosa and
is he the man to fix South Africa?
