Description: Dry Red
Vintages Available: 2012
Country, Region: Italy, Sicily
Appellation: IGT

Very good example of this variety made entirely of Nero d’Avola grapes from hills around Camporeale in Sicily. Medium to full-bodied wine with plums and dark chocolate on the palate, soft tannins.[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="About the Producer" opened=""]In 1968 Hugues Bernard Comte de la Gatinais, born in St. Malo in France in 1940 and for eight years an officer in the French navy, married Gigi Guarrasi, descendant of a great family of Palermo. With her he engaged in a passionate and courageous adventure: the reconstruction, along modern lines, of the cellar destroyed by an earthquake in the Belice Valley. The Comte de la Gatinais devoted the greatest care to the varietal and agronomic reorganisation of the vineyards. Already 30 years ago in Sicily the great French vine varieties were planted alongside the indigenous ones. Today, the work, started by Hugues de la Gatinais and his wife Gigi, has been now carried on by their son Laurent, with the same care and passion.[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="Grapes" opened=""]100% Nero d'Avola[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="Vineyard" opened=""]Selected parcels of vines cultivated at between 300 and 400 metres above sea level and trained by the Guyot system on clay soil with limited yields of grapes per hectare.[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="Vinification" opened=""]The grapes, picked in mid-September are vinified separately on the skins in small stainless steel containers. Average to long macerations and controlled temperatures help giving this product a good structure.[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="Ageing" opened=""]After the malolactic fermentation, the wine is allowed to rest and refine in the bottle before being released for sale.[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="Tasting Notes" opened=""]Ruby red colour, with a bouquet reminiscent of plums, berries and with hints of dark chocolate and violets. On the palate, it displays meaty blackberry and minerality. Medium- to full-bodied, with good, solid tannins and a long finish.[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="Analysis" opened=""]13% alcohol vol.[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="Food Suggestions" opened=""]Poultry of all kinds (guinea fowl, duck, turkey etc.). Roast white meats and ripe cheeses.

Serving temperature: 18°C.[/toggle_lite][toggle_lite title="Cellar" opened=""]Ready to drink. It can be aged for 2-3 years.[/toggle_lite]
