Rare 1940s Reliable Series Small Tin Globe Made in England Still In Very Good Condition

A VERY RARE ANTIQUE SMALL (11CM DIAMETER) GLOBE FROM THE RELIABLE SERIES PRODUCED IN THE 1940S IN ENGLAND. IN VERY GOOD CONDITION.
 
IT IS MADE OF TIN AND IS HOLLOW AND SPINS AROUND ITS AXEL. IN THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY EVERY CLASS ROOM NEEDED A GLOBE BUT THEY WERE PRETTY EXPENSIVE IN THOSE DAYS.
 
IT IS FUN TO DATE OLD GLOBES LOOKING AT HOW COUNTRIES HAVE GAINED INDEPENDENCE THROUGH THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURIES COLONIAL YEARS. THIS GLOBE CAN BE DATED TO THE LATE 1940S AND IN PARTICULAR GIVEN A DATE OF 1947.
 
THE FIRST KEY DATE INDICATOR IS CEYLON WHICH IS ON THIS GLOBE. Ceylon was the former name of the country now officially known as Sri Lanka which gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1948.
 
THE SECOND KEY INDICATOR IS THE NAME PAKISTAN WHICH IS ON THIS GLOBE. Pakistan was part of the British Indian Empire, and remained so until independence in 1947.
 
ANOTHER KEY INDICATOR IS GERMANY (NOT EAST AND WEST GERMANY) WHICH IS ON THIS GLOBE. After World War II, the victorious Allies divided Germany into Soviet and Western zones, leading to the formation of the communist East Germany (German Democratic Republic) and the democratic West Germany (Federal Republic of Germany) in 1949.
 
ALSO LOOK FOR FRENCH INDOCHINA was a group of French dependent territories in Southeast Asia. It mainly comprised current Cambodia and Laos and some Vietnamese regions.  It was established in 1887 and was dissolved in 1954. On 22 October and 9 November 1953, Laos and Cambodia gained independence, as did Vietnam ending French Indochina.
 
ALSO LOOK FOR NORTHERN RHODESIA, now modern-day Zambia was a British protectorate established in 1911. Northern Rhodesia joined Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland to form the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in 1953.  It gained independence as Zambia in 1964. 
 
ALSO LOOK FOR THE BELGIAN CONGO was a Belgian colony in Central Africa from 1908 until independence in 1960 and became the Republic of the Congo. The former colony adopted its present name, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in 1964.
