An EXCELLENT example of a RARE- 1950s / 1960s British Special Air Service, Padded 'Malaya Type' Embroidered Parachute Qualification Wing Badge. This piece appears to be in a VF+ state , with detailed embroidered Graphic Relief on obverse. All insignia present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Stitching is intact with felt material in good order. Pigmentation is in excellent condition - little to no fading observed. Internal padding is present, as well as - correct reinforced panel at rear of insignia.
This piece would have been issued and worn by nembers of the British Special Air Service, during the 1950s - 1960s ; commensurate with the period of the Malayan Emergency & Operations in Borneo ( hence the namesake).
The S.A.S was formed during World War II- by Major David Stirling, as a Unit tasked with carrying out covert & clandestine combat operations. This Regiment has served as the predecessor of all Modern Elite & Special Forces formations around the world.
