Oblong folio, backed onto card, glazed and framed. The image area alone measures 41 x 60 cm, not including the caption and margins.
Not examined out of the frame. Some discreet minor repair. Generally, in good antiquarian condition.

This is one of a series of five hand-coloured prints by Martens, depicting scenes during the Frontier Wars. This print relates to the Eighth Frontier War, 1850 to 1853.

Sir George Cathcart GCB (1794 to 1854), the publishers dedicatee, was a British general and diplomat. He was Governor of the Cape from 31 March 1852 to 26 May 1854.
