Very rare AK bayonet.
The precise history and origin of this bayonet is quite vague, but based on a compilation of statements from various collecting forums, it appears that a batch of these bayonets were manufactured in Vietnam around 1995 for North Korea. For whatever reason, they were never delivered and subsequently sent without scabbards to a military surplus dealer in Germany who had surplus East German scabbards that he used to complete these bayonets. These completed bayonets were released onto the collectors market in 2007 into Europe with a batch going to the USA.
It is said that only 2,000 of this black handled version and 2,000 of a red handled version were ever made, being 4,000 in total, which if accurate would make these very rare, second only to the SADF R4 bayonet.
This bayonet is in new, unused condition and is extremely well made, with the quality of materials and assembly surpassing any of the official military AK variants in my collection. Comparing the quality of the blade itself, it is possible that these original blades came from East German surplus stocks to begin with, as the fit of the blade to the wire cutting stud locks up perfectly.
Please view the pics carefully to determine condition as this is the exact item that the winner will receive. Ask if you have any questions.
