Offered for sale is a rare and highly collectible ceramic vase made by the company Sunset Ceramics which was based in Newlyn Cornwall in the UK . This item was designed by the owner founder of the company Maggie Fischer who introduced a new and quirky product range to the company when sales were flagging on their traditional ceramic designs with Celtic motifs. This vase is made from slip cast earthenware probably low fired and glazed in an appealing lustre glaze in shades of pale mint green and celadon. The vase retains the original paper labels for both the manufacturer Sunset Ceramics and the UK Union Jack made in Britain sticker. The vase is highly unusual in its styling modelled as a slender naked female foot in an open work sandal with a high stiletto heal, ribbon tied ankle strap, and decorative buckle at the front of the shoe. Variations on this design include a double footed lamp base, and a foot with an open box attachment, as well as a foot/shoe lidded box. Maggie Cornwall produced a number of eye catching designs for this range including a mermaid lamp, Flamingo vase, Art Deco inspired female face vase with sunburst styled streaming hair and figurines including a Pierrot. The website Studiopottery.com illustrates some of these examples. Maggie Fischers concept for this vase may have been influenced by the famous maverick /Pop art inspired Italian designer Pierro Fornasetti who designed a sandalled foot vase in the 1960's modelled as a Roman warriors foot/sandal.
