The Larimar gemstone can only be found in a one square kilometre on a mountaintop in the Dominican Republic.

 Using the same mining techniques for the last hundred years, a small group of families high in the Bahoruco mountains  is the only people permitted to harvest the mineral.Larimar is mined by hand up to 300 feet below ground.
