THIS AUCTION IS FOR THIS ANTIQUE (CIRCA 1854-1918) WARMING PLATE BY MEHUN - CHARLES PILLIVUYT - MEHUN SUR YEURE FRANCE.
MOST OF THESE DISHES WERE CHILDRENS OR ELDERLY FOOD WARMING PLATES. THE INSIDE OF THE PLATE IS SUPPOSED TO BE FILLED WITH HOT WATER THROUGH THE HOLE WERE THE STOPPER IS SO THAT THE PORRIDGE REMAINS HOT IN THE DISH.
THIS PLATE IS BROWN GLAZED OVER WHITE PORCELAIN AND IS MARKED AS SEEN IN PHOTO WITH THE C.P. CO. MARK WHICH WAS USED FROM 1850 TO 1918. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL CERAMIC CLOVER SHAPED CORK LINED STOPPER. THE SAME CLOVER DECORATION IS STAMPED ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE DISH.
AMAZING THAT IT IS STILL INTACT AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. IT IS A LARGE PLATE AT 23CM ACROSS. IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO CHIPS OR CRACKS.

CHARLES PILLIVUYT & CO (C.P. & CO) - 1954-1918: Mehun C.P. & Co, also known as Charles Pillivuyt & Co, was a French porcelain manufacturer active in Mehun-sur-Yèvre during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, specifically from the 1850s to the 1910s. The company was known for producing a variety of porcelain items, including bowls, saucers, teacups, teapots, creamers, hot water jugs, and butter dishes. Charles Pillivuyt founded his own factory in Mehun-sur-Yèvre in 1854, and Used the C.P. & Co Mehun Porcelaines stamp until 1918 when the company changed their method of firing from wood to coal and the marking on their products changed. C.P. & Co. was closely associated and became part of the larger Pillivuyt porcelain company, which is still in operation today.
