Doulton Burslem 1895 Melrose pattern.
An antique earthen transfer ware serving plate, perhaps an under plate for a tureen?
As an ornamental wall plate it belongs with the finest earthenware of it's period. I have searched the internet for information on this pattern. I found info on the 'Melrose' pattern but no pictures matching this plate. I have found the pattern, by searching the number, in blue flow but not in these colours. Nothing!
Price wise it would range between $45 and $65. However, I saw a lid of the blue flow for $105 so it depends on the market and scarcity. Personally I love this piece - but I collect Royal Copenhagen and this will go towards financing my collection :-)
Size: 22.3cm x 16.5cm.
Condition: Intact with crazing all over. Underneath there is a small chip near the edge (see picture) and a chip on the base rim. A couple of hairline cracks which only appear on the bottom. The surface has some scratches from wear. Considering it's age this lady has kept well!
