Rare antique Powell & Hanmer "Chieftain" carbide bicycle/ motorbike lamp. I would estimate that this Birmingham made lamp would have been manufactured c1910. This lamp is from a time when bikes/motorbikes were in their infancy, and they had not yet discovered how to employ electricity from the bike itself (or dynamo or battery) and instead used primitive carbide lamps such as this one for lighting. It is nickel plated, and measures 17cm x 15cm. It has a green and red side jewel on either side reflector unit. The lamp is in decent condition for its age with an unblemished lens, but does not have a mounting bracket. Great buy for the collector of antique transportation items.
