Description: Rare Antique Victorian 3-in-1 Mourning Locket & Working Miniature Tabletop Frame.
Exceptionally rare, multi-functional late Victorian mourning photo keepsake dating back to the late 19th century (circa 1880s1890s).
This classic oval statement piece features a beautifully preserved antique sepia portrait of a Victorian woman resting safely behind its original protective glass insert. The polished gold-filled frame measures 6.5 cm in total length (including the top loop bale) and 4.5 cm in width. This item has no Makers Mark.
Collector's Value & Rarity Note (Why this item is highly valued): Unlike standard Victorian lockets, this is a premium, convertible 3-in-1 piece.
The reverse side features a plush maroon velvet backing equipped with a fully functional, sturdy fold-out easel stand. The mechanism works perfectly, allowing the piece to stand independently as a miniature tabletop portrait frame. It can also be worn as a neck pendant via its original black silk ribbon, or pinned as a prominent bodice pin.
It retains its original 140-year-old silk ribbon and velvet backing in completely unaltered, unrestored condition, making it highly collectible for serious antique dealers and memento mori historians.
The term "gold-filled" is a bit confusing because the gold is actually on the outside surface, not packed inside the core. Gold-filled material is a solid sandwich of metals. A thick sheet of solid, real karat gold is placed over a heavy inner block of base metal, usually jewelers' brass or copper.

Condition: Excellent antique structural condition. The easel hinge is tight and supports the frame easily. The velvet and ribbon show authentic, minor age-appropriate wear.
