Rare !!!! Antique Victorian-era travelling or carriage candle lamp

• These lamps were often carried by passengers to provide personal lighting inside dark carriages. They typically feature a spring-loaded candle holder inside the cylindrical "stalk" or handle. As the candle burns, the spring pushes it upward so only the top flame remains visible through the glass window. Many models include a retractable stand at the base or a fold-out hook at the back, allowing the lamp to either stand on a flat surface or hang inside a coach. This is a really good complete example , glass is intact , candle and spring are inside , spring does not look original , is engraved BJ on the lid . Given the font style and the type of silver plating visible, your lamp was almost certainly made between 1870 and 1885. It is a genuine 150-year-old piece of travel history.
