Rare 'Arts & Crafts - Newlyn Copper' Bowl
This very early, attractive copper bowl is a rare, lovely piece of 'Newlyn Copper', that was produced by the 'Newlyn Copper Works' in Cornwall, England during the 'Arts & Crafts' movement, between 1890 and 1920. It has been beautifully decorated with a row of flowing repousse poppies on a hammered background, and other than a small soft dent to the side, it's in great condition and has a lovely rich pink patina. These 'Newlyn Copper' pieces have now become very sought after and are highly valued by collectors. The bowl has a diameter of 21,3cm, stands 9cm high and weighs 435g.
Note: 'Newlyn Copper Works' was established in 1890 by 'John Mackenzie' an artist, who settled in Newlyn, to help the fisherman and local community who were struggling financially due to the unreliability of the fishing industry. After early experiments, they specialised in repousse copper work, and produced a wide range of decorative and domestic items, which have become very sort after today.
