Barlow Wadley XCR-30 MKII Radio (Short and Medium Wave) Very rare and sought after medium and shortwave radio receiver is the famous Barlow-Wadley XCR30 shortwave set. It turned the radio listening world upside down with its introduction in 1973, and many people who had one at that epoch (and those who had heard of it but could not afford it) still fall silent when they hear the name. The historically significant Barlow Wadley XCR-30 portable receiver was designed and built in South Africa by Dr. T.L. Wadley. This rare radio has a linear analog display and covers 500 - 30000 kHz with up to ± 2.5 kHz accuracy when using built-in crystal calibrator. Has cool, pull up band chart. Due to the unobtrusive appearance of the radio, its wide frequency coverage, the XCR-30 was also used during the Cold War by intelligence services from both sides of the Iron Curtain, for example for the reception of messages via the One-Way Voice Link (OWVL). 1 The radio was first introduced in 1969 2 for a price of US$ 269 and was in production until 1981.
