MINIATURE BOER WAR PEACE MONUMENT/ "VREDESMONUMENT" OF VEREENIGING

" The Peace Monument or Peace Memorial is a monument in the Civic Center of Vereeniging .
The purpose of the monument is to continually remind the Afrikaner of the freedom struggle
that was temporarily lost with the weapon during the Boer War, but in the long term won, by the spirit of immortality. The word "wound/ gewond" appears on the pedestal and shows the defeat of a people who lost
their independence; but unreservedly calls out the faith, hope and courage reigned from the debris.

"An event that brings sorrow and disappointment, but leading to the renewal and the building of a higher ideal" - This is the message of the memorial at Vereeniging . "

 The monument presents a young Boer warrior who is very injured on his left side.
From the wound in his heart a symbolic figure rises triumphantly, aiming the right arm to heaven.
The two figures rest on a tall pedestal, with a feast on the front. 
The latter consists of the gun, the empty bandage and the Boer Warrior's hat.
It indicates the end of the war, the peace (with the weapon laid down),
but also about the loss of independence (the wreath). 
On both sides of the pedestal, the arms of the republics have been embossed in relief.
Above the festoon are the only words on the memorial: Wounded - but unbeaten. Vereeniging May 31, 1902.

THIS MINIATURE MONUMENT IS MADE OF HEAVY MARBLE/ RESIN

MARKED: "GEWOND - MAAR ONOORWONNE; VEREENIGING, 31 MEI 1902"

DIMENSIONS = 63CM X 11CM X 24CM

ITEM IS IN GOOD CONDITION, NO CHIPS OR CRACKS.
