This rare, beautifully hand carved, dark wood riding crop made by a Boer prisoner of war in Ceylon, is in the shape of a clenched fist with the words 'BOER WAR CEYLON' carved around the crop near the top. The Boer War camp in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) was a chosen destination when the camp at St. Helena was full. I've come across numerous Boer War P.O.W. items over the years (boxes, brooches, pens etc.) but have never come across a riding crop. Other than the missing leather flap (which can be easily replaced if required) it is in excellent condition. It measures 55,5cm in length. The carved fist measures 3cm x 3cm x 2cm.
Please feel free to email me with any queries. Please look closely at the pictures provided as they are of the actual item and form a vital part of the description.
