Rare Antique 'Bohemian Ruby Glass Hookah' Base
This unusual, large, wonderful piece of very early Bohemian glass is known or referred to as a 'Hookah or Huqqa' and was probably made around the early 1800's for the Persian or Turkish market. The 'Hookah' or water pipe vase has a wonderful, very heavy, large hand-blown bell-shaped body, made of a thick blown ruby red, cut to clear glass. The body has three rows of eight cut to clear various shaped panels, all hand-painted in floral blue and white enamels with gilding and boarded with a row of white enamelled dots. Other than small chips or nicks to the inner rim of the neck from usage, its in great condition for its age, and a superb example of a rare early piece. It stands 28,4cm high, has a base diameter of 15cm, a top diameter of 8cm and it weighs 1900g.
