Nutria textured Camouflage external finish appears intact. Helmet remains in a Good State and piece has been utilised. Appropriate Signs of Wear evident due to handling. A degree of surface abrasion markings & variable discoloration may be noted due to utilisation & age. Internal liner suspension system is intact , with leather sweat-band & Neoprene Foam absorption pads. Webbing retention chin-strap is complete w/ buckle. NOTE : Chin-strap configuration has been subject to period conducted augmentation, in which a Patt.73 Green Webbing extension has been applied to increase the overall strap length. Metallic fittings/ buckles / securing chapes / sliders are present & may display signs of verdigris. All internal Manufacturer Serial Numbers/markings are present. Recipient Force Number has been inscribed within lining. Item is Second-Hand.

An EXCELLENT example of a RARE, 1980s SADF Type I OR-201 Ballistic Composite Helmet w/ Liner & Webbing Chin-Strap. This piece appears to be in a VF/F state of preservation, with detailed Nutria textured Camouflage surface finish on obverse and reverse. All necessary functional parts appear present. Appropriate Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Helmet Surface paint will display areas of wear / scuff marks. A degree of variable discoloration/ toning may be evident throughout due to age & composition. Helmet shell retains good structural integrity and maintains overall form. Internal suspension liner system is intact - with 3 x Neoprene Foam absorption pads ( front, rear & crown). Leather sweat-band is complete & is attached to a Cradle-Type 'Israeli Pattern' liner system. Metallic fittings/ buckles/ chapes and adjustment sliders are present & may exhibit traces of verdigris. Webbing chin-strap is complete w/ adjustable buckle. NOTE : A period conducted augmentation, has been applied in order to extend the length of the chin-strap extender. All internal Manufacturer Serial Numbers/ markings are present w/in a White Lozenge & remain legible . Recipient details (SADF Force Number) is evident on lining central material band.
This piece would have been utilised by members of the SA Defence Force, who were performing National Service Training or Military / Counter-Insurgency duties in the Operational Area of SWA/ Angola. The OR-201 / Model-76 Ballistic Composite Helmet was made available to South Africa- as a result of Bi-Lateral Defence Agreements with Israel in the late 1970s. This piece differs from the Standard M83 Pattern Helmet , in respect of maintaining fixed liner securing rivets, an adjustable Cradle-Type suspension, Brass metallic fittings and a lighter Nutria variant surface colour finish. The OR-201 was gradually replaced in service from 1983-onward in favour of locally produced models.
