Battlejacket liner suspension system is intact and reinforced with secure stitching throughout. All Ammunition Pouches are intact & feature integral velcro closure tabs. Webbing system waist cincher is present at rear w/ buckle. Additional Haversack portion is present w/ attachment features. Piece is a field-tested prototype and has been exposed to varied operational combat conditions. Item is Second-Hand.

An EXCELLENT example of a SADF Border War, 32 Battalion Nutria Patt.80/83 Prototype Battlejacket w/ Haversack. This piece appears to be in a VF/F state of preservation, with detailed Ammunition & associated Tactical storage Pouches on obverse. All retention tabs, buckles , zippers and adjustment fittings appear present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Cordura Nylon Material is in good order & will display minor areas of wear / scuff marks due to field applications. Internal waist cincher system is intact - allowing for adjustable fitting at rear of battlejacket. Velcro and slide adjustment tabs appear functional when engaged. Battlejacket Woven mesh frame and stitching , appears to retain good structural integrity. The Haversack portion of the Webbing system is intact- and can be detached from the vest , by means of functional Metallic spring-loaded retention clips.
The piece has been subject to a degree of augmentation by the original owner - with a Nutria Retention Lanyard or Chord , having been attached in order to securely tether Headgear / Bush Hats. Original Polymer/ Plastic C-Rings are present for the attachment and removal of the Haversack portion. The original waterproof internal lining treatment appears to be largely intact.
This Prototype Patt.80/83 variant- was designed to cater for the specific needs of specialist formations - such as Elite Light Infantry & was deployed for use with the R4 / 5.56mm Assault Rifle. The Battlejacket featured 7 x Frontal Storage Pouches ( one Pouch was specifically designed to hold 2 x Pencil Flares) - as well as - a detachable Haversack portion (Double compartment) that could function for additional equipment. Provision was made for the addition of 2 x 2 Litre Water Canteens. Comfort of use, was catered for - with the presence of internal shoulder pads.
This piece would have been utilised by members of 32 Battalion & other Elite Light Infantry Units ( SADF Special Forces included) - as part of their fielddress equipment assembly. The Patt.80/83 variant appeared in multiple interations- and differed from the SWATF version. This differentiation manifested in the lack of a Metallic Retention D-Ring on the frontal segment & the presence of a internal waterproof nylon map storage sleeve.
