This scarce aluminum "India Pattern" canteen first appeared in the British Army Dress Regulations of 1900 to replace the brown enameled India Pattern canteen. This type was in use with British forces from 1900 until about 1940. It was also carried by officers on the Sam Brown belt, or with a shoulder strap. Used during the Anglo Boer War and also by Union Defence Force during WW1. The cork was replaced with a champaign cork.
