Offered for sale is a rare and highly collectible Chinese eggshell porcelain bowl from the Jingdezhen early Republic period, first half of the 20th Century circa 1940/50. The bowl is made from a super-fine, thin walled, wafer thin porcelain which is translucent when held against sunlight. The bowl is decorated with a motif of floral sprays , moths and intricate geometric designs including a repeat pattern border in cobalt blue on the upper and lower rim of the bowl , based on the Ruyi motif . The base of the bowl is marked with the Qing dynasty Qianlong mark in cobalt blue. The upper rim of the bowl is gilded. The bowl also has an engraved pattern on the body/sides of the bowl which was made prior to firing and which is incorporated in the floral design . The inner roundel of the bowl has a star-shaped decorative motif in cobalt blue and iron red. As a price comparison a similar example sold through Christies London May 15 2013 lot 844 for 1000 Pounds Sterling (R19000).
