About this Item

This is a rare Christmas Card made by Peggy Roscoe ( Mrs. S.M. Roscoe), who owned the original painting "Crawfish Seller". On the front is a raised plate measuring 20 cm by 15 cm, mounted on a fold out Christmas Card whose front cover measures 24 cm by 15.5 cm. Peggy lived near Hartley, Southern Rhodesia ( now Chegutu, Zimbabwe ), but socialised with Tretchikoff on numerous occasions, including canasta sessions with him and his wife at their splendid mansion in Bishopscourt, Cape Town. Her iconic painting, which she bought prior to 1952, was later exhibited in Durban with her permission in 1959, and became one of the subjects of the artist's many and profuse lithographic reproductions, all iconic monuments to mid century "kitsch". The print was also included in Tretchikoff's 1952 book Native Colour Prints and other books. Near fine well preserved condition. Seller Inventory # 80218
