South Africa’s Legendary Blend turns 60

Roodeberg, the famous red wine blend from KWV's cellars, enjoys as much popularity today as it did when it was first produced in the late 1940s by Dr Charles Niehaus, a pioneer of modern South African wine making.

He was given the task in 1941 to develop KWV’s range of wine. The red blends were initially named Paarl Full Bodied Red and Paarl Light Bodied Dry Red, later renamed Roodeberg No 1 and Roodeberg No 2. The decision was later taken to retain only the full-bodied product under the Roodeberg name.
