Bartholomina Handmade Porcelain Ceramic Doll – Rare Collectors Item
Made in limited numbers, incredibly lifelike with beautiful delicacy, every doll is slightly different. This handmade doll has a porcelain head, full porcelain arms and legs. the doll measure approximately 45cm in length. She has Ash blonde hair, grey eyes and a light rosy complexion. She has quaint white leather shoes. Due to age her dress is a bit faded in the front.
Finely crafted, the Bartholomina Dolls were handmade between 1976 and the mid-1980s. Each doll was made in kit form by doll artists Carolyn Metcalfe (nee McSweeney) and Jenny Ferreira – mentioned in Constance Eileen King's book "Dolls and Doll Houses". The dolls are set in the Victorian Era and are named after those made by women in the Middle Ages to sell at St. Bartholomew’s Day Fairs. Bartholomina Dolls are made of ceramic porcelain and coloured with a warm flesh tone glaze to give their skin a delicate glow. The beautifully hand-painted facial features mean every doll has a subtly different face. They are sought after by collectors because of the exquisite artistry and as the dolls are each unique. After the dolls were made the moulds were destroyed.The dolls were made in series with the main collection numbering 20 dolls. The series, number of each doll and year it was made is marked on the back of the shoulder plate. Please see all photos as this plays a big part in her description she has marks on her undergarment
