An EXCELLENT example of RARE, Early 1900s British Naval Navigational Quintant /Sextant with Hardwood Portmanteau. This piece appears to be in a VF state , with detailed Relief on obverse and reverse. All necessary parts appear present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Brass construction is complete with Coloured Glass Lenses, Adjustable dial, Handle ,Reflective Mirror and Occular Mount present. The parts appear to function appropriately as intended when engaged.
The Manufacturers markings are present and legible, and instrument retains a wonderful surface lustre. Hardwood Portmanteau is complete with retention latch , and Maritime Anchor Escutcheon. NOTE : Underside or base panel of Portmanteau will display a small degree of attempted insect wear- this is purely cosmetic and DOES NOT affect integrity or overall visual appearance.
A piece such as this- would have been utilised by Fleet Deck Officer's of the British Royal Navy- as well as - associated formations , notably the Mercantile Marine.
