An EXCELLENT example of RARE, 1920s South African Railways & Harbours Large Brass Padlock w/ Lanyard , Key & Token. This piece appears to be in a VF state of preservation , with detailed Relief on obverse. All insignia/ necessary markings are present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Toning and verdigris will be noted in some areas of exposure. The Brass Casement is complete , with the securing bale allowing for opening and closure. This item is clearly marked: S.A.S / S.A.R with the Date Stamps for 1923 & 1928 on bale and Lock casement.
Lock mechanism engages well, with Key inserted- allowing for ease of movement. The original Brass retention Lanyard is included with a period correct 'Chubb' variant Key. The inventory token is also present with the SA Railway & Harbours Nomenclature and Numbered : 61.
