Rare Early Victorian G.P.O. Whistle (Escargot Button Type) (1860/70s)
This very rare, and very early 'escargot type button' whistle, used by the 'General Post Office', (GPO) dates to around the1860/70's and is in immaculate condition considering its age. This is a very early example of this type, due to being made in tin-plate, and does not appear to have ever been nickel-plated. It has two brass embossed 'button' sides with the Victorian crown and the letters 'G.P.O.', with a small triangular ring for a chain. The whistle has its original 'pea' and functions well. It measures 4,1cm in length, has a width of 2,1cm and the sides have a diameter of 2cm.
