This came from a farm in the Bathurst district. The period Oak frame is carved and beautiful. The picture is in pencil, you can see paper texture and rubbed hi lights in the eyes with a magnifying glass. This should be a museum piece. The ID of the people is unknown, but are, judging by clothing, from 1880's or a touch earlier. Awesome item. Shipping R120.

Bathurst was the first capital of the Eastern Cape, before Grahamstown, it was founded in the 1830's most of the houses are settler built. This picture was from a farm 10km outside of Bathurst and the lady said they were family, but names had been forgotten over time. This family was originally dutch farmers from the cape. Not settlers.
