Rare Antique 'George III' Silver Wine Coaster (1792)
This rare, fine, late 1700's 'George III' solid silver wine coaster has a beautifully hand pierced and engraved gallery in a lovely neoclassical design with a scalloped rim and a turned hardwood base. It has nice clear English hallmarks, indicating it was made in Birmingham in 1792 by 'Henry Chawner' (HC), and the armorial engraved in the cartouche is of a 'heron with a snake in its beak' (supposedly the 'Kinder' family crest). Other than a very minor tear to the silver on the base of the seam, and a chip to the underside of the wooden base, it's in excellent condition. The coaster measures 12,5cm in diameter with a height of 4,3cm and weighs 180g.
Note: This silver coaster is one of a matching pair, and due to the other having some damage to the silver gallery, I have listed it separately.
