Offered for sale is a rare and collectible Catagalli Italian hand made ceramic ewer /jug vase with a single strap handle attached extending from the apex of the jug/vase to the shoulder of the bulbous body . This item was made in Florence Italy in the late 19th or early 20th Century by the famous Cantagalli ceramic studio whose ceramics are signed with a hand painted cockerel mark on the base . These colourful ceramics were much prized and collectible and were " copied" by Cantagalli in Italy and by Theodore Deck and Samson French ceramic manufacturers in the 19th Century. This vase/ewer is tin glazed majolica hand painted with a stylized floral motif of tulips, carnations and hyacinths . The palette/colours of the vase are typical of the Damascus style Iznik ceramics with olive and sage green, brick red and a deep blue-mauve with detailing and borders in black.
