An EXCELLENT example of a RARE, Kushan Empire 1st Century AD Bronze Sota Tetradrachm Coin . This piece appears to be in a Fair state of preservation , with detailed graphic Relief on obverse and reverse of coin. All Greek nomenclature present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Surface toning will be noted. Planchet is complete with edging intact. High relief remains defined and clear for both sides of the Coin , small degree of smoothing visible.
This piece would have been issued for circulation in the period of 80 - 100 AD , during the reign of Kushan Ruler Vima Takhto. The Kushan Empire was formed by Vima Takhto 's father - Kujula Kadphises , who had migrated with the original 5 Confederated Tribes of the Yuezhi from Western China ( Gansu). The Coin reads in Greek : 'Supreme Ruler' and features the Tribal Tamgha of the nomadic Kushan tribe for both obverse and reverse.
