Rare, original photograph, showing Wonderboom Tom (a.k.a. Puffing Billy) outside the Glasgow Art Gallery during the Glasgow International Exhibition (1901).
One of the last photographs (not featured in Changuion) of the only remaining Boer 155-mm gun Creusot siege canon (Long Tom), originally purchased by the ZAR from the firm Schneider et Cie in Le Creusot, France. During the guerrilla phase of the Boer War, the Boers destroyed the four Long Toms to prevent the guns being taken by the enemy, and the remains of the Wonderboom Tom (taken by the British forces on 24.09.1900, on the hill to the east of Komatipoort) was reassembled as a war trophy for Lord Roberts. The ultimate fate of the gun remains a mystery, but it was probably smelted as part of the war effort.
