Rare 'Royal Irish Constabulary' Cast Iron Barracks Plaque
This original, very early, large and very heavy cast iron painted 'Royal Irish Constabulary' Barracks Plaque with Kings Crown, was in use for a short period from 1901 to 1922. I believe this to be an original one, as the copies were made of a light weight alloy, and it was previously owned by the late 'Mervyn Mitton', author of the book 'The Policeman's Lot' (a book on antique British police equipment). I have since found out, that this is the actual piece the author has put in his book on page 127, in a colour illustration. (I have a copy of this book for sale on my site). The plaque is in excellent condition and appears to have been carefully re-painted at a later stage, in the correct colours with a good quality enamel paint. It measures 39,5cm x 23,5cm x 6cm and weighs a heavy 7kg.
Please feel free to email me with any queries. Please look closely at the pictures provided as they are of the actual item and form avital part of the description.
