Sesamothamnus is a small genus of African deciduous caudiciform small trees and shrubs from the sesam family. They have trunks that are swollen at the base, with sparsely spiny branches and ovate leaves.  It is more closely related to Pterodiscus.

The flowers are tubular, white to light yellow, generally with a tinge of pink. The flowers emerge in spring before the leaves.  Keep dry when not in flower or without leaves.  Requires regular watering when in active growing season.
