"Highly collectible post-1961 South African officers ceremonial sword, produced by the renowned WKC (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co.) firm in Solingen, Germany. These swords were authorized for use by the South African Defence Force (SADF) and South African Police (SAP) during the Republic era (post-1961). 

Key Features & Details

• Manufacturer: WKC Solingen, Germany, known for high-quality, hand-forged swords.
• Blade & Etching: Fullered single-edged blade (approx. 31.75 inches) featuring the Republic of South Africa Coat of Arms on one side of the ricasso and the "WKC Solingen Germany" maker's mark on the other.
• Serial Number: A unique issue number is stamped on the ricasso.
• Hilt: Wire-bound shagreen (sharkskin/rayskin) grip with a three-bar hilt.
• Scabbard: Leather-bound with brass or plated fittings.
• Context: These replaced earlier Union-marked swords after 1961. The SAP versions were noted for being of higher quality, often stainless steel, compared to the Armys plated versions. 

• Condition: Excellent/Mint condition examples with intact, original leather scabbards are highly sought after.

The presence of the "WKC Solingen" mark and the unique serial number confirms its authenticity as a high-quality, European-manufactured, issued South African military item."
