British style SA Union Defence Force marked WW1 and/or WW2 3 gallon camp kettle / "dixie" with lid as used in military field kitchens. This example was made by HENDLER & HENDLER (PTY) LTD, JOHANNESBURG.

The Hendler & Hendler company was founded in 1912 and later amalgamated with Hart cookware makers.

These 3 gallon oval camp kettles or "dixies" were first introduced in British Army service in 1884 and remained in service right into the 1950s/60s with a few modifications made over the years. These kettles saw service during the Boer War, WW1 and WW2 (see black and White photos attached).
