Rare - Victorian Britannia Metal 'Pig Nose' Whistle
This rare, very early Britannia metal, pig nose pea whistle dates to around the late 1800's and is in great condition for its age, works well, and still has its original 'pea' inside. These whistles were used by the constabulary, fire departments and railways during this period, and at the time were referred to as 'Police & Railway Calls', and not whistles. This whistle has no makers marks anywhere, but is very similar to the brass pig nose whistles made in Scotland by 'Samuel Auld & Co.' It measures 6,3cm in length (without ring).
Note: This whistle belonged to the late Mervyn Mitton, author of the book 'The Policeman's Lot' (A reference book on antique British police equipment).
