Rare Victorian Willcox & Gibbs sewing machine with wooden carry case. This old sewing machine dates to c1894. It is a single thread chain stitch sewing machine, and is manufactured from cast iron. The machine is fastened onto a wooden board, which slides into its original wooden carry case. It is marked with the patents on the metal sewing plate, which also has specifications on it. The machine is compact measuring 33cm x 21cm (only the machine). It is in good condition for its age - person who sold it to me said that his mother sewed on the machine. It however does not have the original belt (looks like a homemade belt), and the machine will need to be cleaned and oiled. One side panel on the wooden base is also missing. Carry case is in good condition. Great buy - this is a rare museum piece.
