Rare Vintage Art Deco Bakelite British Made 6-Pipe Stand. 13 x 11.5cm

A rare mid-century British Made circular pipe stand in Bakelite.  Stamped "British Made" with an "S" logo to the upper section and base as well as "Registered Design. No.797155" to the base.  In good overall vintage condition with some wear to the base rim and a small repair to the upper section.  Probable dates from the early 1940's.  Comfortably holds 6 standard-sized pipes in the bowl up or bowl down position. Kindly note that the pipes are for display only and not included.

Bakelite was one of the first plastic-like materials to be introduced into the modern world and was popular because it could be moulded and then hardened into any shape.  It was developed by Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, in 1907, and patented on December 7, 1909.  The retro appeal of old Bakelite products has made them highly collectable.
