This is a beautifully designed piece of Asian art. The sword displays a carved dragon on both sides of the blade. The spine of the sword is arguably the most valuable asset to this piece. Each of the nine rings were painstakingly individually carved out both for the rings, and the holes through which they are attached. The significance of the number nine or any multiple of three in the rings is a common feature when dealing with dragons, as both the dragon and the multiple of three are considered good luck. Likewise, the hilt shows Yazi, the second eldest of the nine sons of the dragon. He is often depicted as a half wolf, half dragon and was said to love to fight. This led to his imagery being plastered on the hilts of swords and other weapons of war and him being known as the god of war in Chinese Mythology. It was believed that Yazi could wipe out all evil spirits. His image is displayed on both sides of the sword. The jade is a beautiful piece of pale green nephrite jade with subtle veins of white nephrite throughout. The jade becomes slightly more "powdered" in coloring as your eye moves toward the handle. All coloring is natural, and only adds to the beauty of the piece. It would make a fine addition to any art collection. Stand is included.
