Rare vintage square oil lamp base (That broke my heart)

I cannot find another on the internet. So it has to be scarce. I was so excited when purchasing it, but when I wanted to clean it up, found that the one corner is broken, and has been repaired.  Not sure if the tin is part of the original lamp, or was added for "cosmetic reasons" due to the repaired corner.  Either way, I don't feel it should just be discarded. 

I prefer using recycled packaging materials as far as possible.
