This item is secondhand and in good vintage condition. Many South African troops were sent out to fight in WWII and the South African Gifts and Comforts Committee issued each soldier with this tin for Christmas in 1940 with a slab of chocolate. The cover of the box has the inscription ' Greetings From South Africa' and ' We Rely On You And Are Grateful' in both English and Afrikaans. The inside lid has "With Best Wishes From South African Gifts and Comforts Committee, Christmas 1940' inscribed on it also in English and Afrikaans. It measures 17,5 x 11,5 cm and is 3 cm in height.
