An EXCELLENT example of World War I , 1900s Imperial German 'Cobalt Blue' Salt Glazed Ceramic Bier Stein. This piece appears to be in a VF state , with detailed Graphic Design Relief on obverse and reverse. All insignia present. Minimal Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Ceramic retains a wonderful Glazed lustre. Pewter cap is complete with hinge and engages well.
This piece is adorned with a traditional Floral motif, encompassing the features of a Scwarzwald Gnome figure and various thematic symbols of nature & musical instruments. The term ' Prosit ' is evident - characterizing the old South German pronunciation. All Imperial Prussian markings are impressed on the Tankard/ Stein base.
The item would have been utilised by a variety of German Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen during the period of 1914-18 : having been obtained from a large collection of German Military items.
