NOTE : A minor period repair appears to have been applied by the original owner ( friction induced). All design features remain clear & defined - with necessary nomenclature appearing legible. Structural integrity of Breast Badge is good with stitching and contoured borders evident. Insignia presents well, but must be handled with care as elements are delicate - due to age. Piece is ex-Mount & was once secured to a period uniform Tunic.
This piece represents, an early variant of the RFC/RAF Observer Half-Wing Qualification Badge, being slightly larger in dimensions compared to later iterations. Insignia of this type would have been worn (on the Left-Breast) by members of the Royal Flying Corps/ Royal Air Force - who were performing Aerial Reconnaissance, Artillery Spotting, Aerial Photography and other necessary functions on the various Frontlines.
The ideal addition to any First World War Era, British RFC/RAF Insignia collection or display- for the enthusiast seeking a unique period piece for their assortment.
