Rare WW1 Vickers Pattern 1907 Sword Bayonet.
A fine example of a rare WW1 Pattern 1907 sword bayonet by Vickers Ltd. for use with the Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) rifle. The bayonet is in good antique condition with the locking button functional. Kindly note no scabbard. About 5 million WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonets were produced by a number of factories with Wilkinson and Sanderson being the most prolific. A number of other factories manufactured the bayonet with Vickers (more famous for the iconic Vickers machine gun) being the rarest with only about 10 000 produced from mid-1917 to 1918. Marks (left ricasso) : Crown and "G.R." (George Rex - King George) over "1907" (pattern model) over "8" and "18" (manufacture date - August, 1918) over "VICKERS" (manufacturer) with the Vickers stamp.
Marks (right ricasso) : "X" (bend test stamp) with a number of Enfield inspection stamps.
Marks (handle) : An embossed crown (regimental?)
Marks (pommel) : 2 broad arrows facing meeting at the apexes ("sold out of service" - the point that the bayonet left the military service).
