Rare WWII 60 Squadron SAAF Lapel Badge

This original silver and enamel lapel badge is a remarkable piece of World War II history, preserved in excellent condition with its pin and catch intact. Worn by members of 60 Squadron, South African Air Force, it represents a unit renowned for its daring long-range reconnaissance missions. From their base in San Severo, Italy (December 1943-August 1945), squadron pilots flew unarmed Mosquito Mk XVI aircraft deep into enemy territory, relying on speed and skill to gather critical intelligence over Austria, Germany, and Yugoslavia. Most notably, 60 Squadron was the first Allied unit to photograph the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on September 13, 1944. A rare and sought-after collectible for military history enthusiasts.
