An EXCELLENT example of a Zulu War Era, British Patt.1856/58 Yataghan Bayonet. This piece appears to be in a VF/F state , with Blade complete and grip-scales secure. All markings present. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Blade edge will display signs of general wear, Mortise retains leaf-spring- however, retention press Stud has expired.
This piece would have been issued to senior N.C.O's within the British Army- for usage with the .577 Enfield Rifle and later the Martini Henry. The variant known as the Type I , was manufactured under contract by German Cutler , Friedrich Hörster & Co of Solingen.
