Botanical Description:
A shrubby plant that is widely cultivated for its fruit but which also grows wild in and around forests in Europe.
Growing as high as 6½ feet, the biennial stems have few or no prickles and bear alternate, pinnate leaves with three to seven serrate, broad-ovate to oblong-ovate, cordate leaflets which are usually downy white underneath.
Clusters of 1 to 6 white flowers appear in the upper axils during spring and summer of the second year, producing the familiar red fruit which ripens later during the summer.

Main Uses:
Nutritionally beneficial for its tonifying effect on the uterus and is used as a preparative tonic for childbirth and period pain.
Native women's use of raspberry teas as an aid to pregnant women was first confirmed by a medical study that appeared in 1941 in the prestigious British medical journal Lancet. A complex biochemical that relaxes the uterus has been found.
Raspberry preparations have a history in Europe as well as the U.S. in treating for morning sickness, uterine irritability, threatened miscarriage, and as a birth assistant.
In western medicine, it's been widely recommended as a uterine relaxant for over half a century, with no reports in the medical literature of bad effects.
Recent studies also show it tends to reduce blood sugar (glucose) and may be helpful to diabetics.

Contra-Indications:
Allergy or hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. Symptoms of allergy include Breathing problems or tightness in your throat or chest, chest pain, skin hives, rash, or itchy or swollen skin.

Interactions:
Many tinctures contain high levels of alcohol and may cause nausea or vomiting when taken with metronidazole (Flagyl®) or disulfiram (Antabuse®).
Interacts with Acetaminophen with Codeine, Atropine, Cardec DM®, Codeine, Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine, Lomotil®/Lonox®, Theophylline/Aminophylline.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Raspberry is a mild uterine stimulant and helps relax uterine and intestinal spasms. It is also generally taken six to eight weeks before confinement. It is however always advisable to consult with your doctor or herbal practitioner before taking any medication or supplements.
Problems in breast-fed infants of lactating mothers when mother takes small or usual amounts have not been proved but may exist. It is therefore always advisable to consult with your doctor or herbal practitioner.

Over Dosage:
